Namasté

Welcome. I am not a former dancer and I have never been to Mysore. I am an artist, painting professor and long-time Ashtanga practitioner who tries to keep up a daily practice of yoga to stave off the aches and pains of middle-age. If I have gained any wisdom about this practice it has come from some wonderful teachers and from my own experiences on the mat over a long number of years.

About

I am an artist, professor and dedicated yoga practitioner since 1999, studying many forms of yoga, from Iyengar to Ashtanga to Yin Yoga. I completed Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Tom Gillette at Eyes of the World, Providence in 2002. With a primary practice in Ashtanga, I have been fortunate to study with Guruji (Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) and with several senior teachers over the years, including David Swenson, Nancy Gilgoff, David Williams and Danny Paradise. I have taught regular Asthanga classes at the Yoga Room on Nantucket, a studio run by my wife, Shannah Green and have been teaching Mysore and Led Ashtanga classes at the Motion Center, Providence since 2011.

As an abstract painter, I am influenced greatly by Eastern philosophy and art in an approach to nature and landscape as a wellspring for spiritual investigation and meditation. I have been a Professor of Art at Roger Williams University since 2000.  You can see my work at: www.michael-rich.com.
